یکی از اصلیترین برنامههای کاربردی که هر کاربر اداری از آن استفاده میکند، برنامههای اداری مانند واژه پردازها و صفحه گستردهها هستند. مجموعههای اداری زیادی برای محیط سیستم عامل لینوکس نوشته شدهاند. یکی از این مجموعهها که بسیار قدرتمند بوده و دارای تعداد زیادی کاربر است، مجموعه OpenOffice است که تحت حمایت شرکت Sun Microsystems توسعه مییابد. مجموعه اداری تجاری StarOffice از این مجموعه بعنوان پایه بهره گیری میکند. OpenOffice با استفاده از زبانهای برنامه نویسی ++C و جاوا نوشته شده است. یکی از محاسن عمده این برنامه قابلیت استفاده از زبان فارسی در آن است. البته ناگفته نماند که این قابلیت فقط در نسخههای 1.1 و بالاتر این نرم افزار موجود است و در نسخههای قدیمیتر نمیتوانید فارسی تایپ کنید.
یکی از بهترین قابلیتهای این مجموعه توانایی خواندن فایلهای مجموعه اداری آفیس مایکروسافت و ذخیره به آن فرمتهاست. بنابراین کاربرانی که مایلند به سیستم لینوکس منتقل شوند و یا مجبور هستند اطلاعات خود را به کاربران سیستم عامل ویندوز ارائه نمایند، میتوانند از این قابلیت به خوبی استفاده نمایند.

به طور معمول دو روش متفاوت براي محدود كردن دسترسي به فايل هاي PDF وجود دارد. يكي استفاده از 'user password' و ديگري استفاده از 'owner password' مي باشد.
'user password' براي جلوگيري از باز شدن فايل PDF بكار مي رود و 'owner password' براي محدود كردن اعمال خاصي به مانند: چاپ كردن، استفاده در محيط گرافيكي و ايجاد تغييرات در متون فايل PDF بكار مي رود.
بعضي فايل هاي PDF كه در اختيار داريد پسورد دارند و امكان باز كردن آنها با برنامه هايي نظير فتوشاپ (براي استفاده از عكس هاي داخل آن) و يا ذخيره كردن بعضي از صفحات آن بصورت PDF را به شما نمي دهند. توسط اين برنامه مي توانيد پسورد را از روي فايل هاي PDF برداريد و از آنها استفاده كنيد.
بايد توجه داشت كه اين برنامه در مورد روش پسوردگذاري 'user password' كارايي ندارد.
